Morrells Mix & Fill Wood Floor Filler is a professional cellulose-based resin binder designed to be mixed with clean sanding dust from the floor being restored. The mixture creates a fast-drying, timber-matched filler for filling joints, nail holes, splits and shakes before the final sanding and finishing stages.
Suitable for gaps up to approximately 5mm wide or deep, Mix & Fill can be used beneath the professional stains, primers, lacquers and wood floor oils available from Wiltshire Wood Flooring Supplies. Choose from 1 litre and 5 litre sizes using the options above.
Wiltshire Wood Recommendation
Mix the binder with fine, clean sanding dust collected from the same floor and spread it across the entire surface using the Bona Flat Bladed Trowel. Its flexible stainless steel blade helps force the filler firmly into joints while removing excess material from the timber surface.
Key Benefits
- Mixes with sanding dust for a close timber colour match
- Suitable for joints and imperfections up to approximately 5mm
- Fills nail holes, splits, shakes and small gaps
- Fast-drying professional formulation
- Can be spread across the complete floor surface
- Easy to sand before staining or finishing
- Compatible with professional stains, primers, lacquers and floor oils
- Available in 1 litre and 5 litre variants
Suitable For
- Parquet and herringbone flooring
- Mosaic and patterned wood flooring
- Solid wood flooring
- Suitable engineered wood flooring
- Nail holes and small surface imperfections
- Timber splits and shakes
- Joints up to approximately 5mm wide or deep
- Full-surface filling during professional floor sanding
Important: Resin filler is best suited to stable joints and smaller imperfections. Gaps within boards that experience substantial seasonal expansion and contraction may cause dried filler to loosen. Larger or highly mobile gaps may require timber slivers or another suitable repair method.

Preparation
- Sand the flooring back to clean, bare timber.
- Ensure the surface is dry and free from wax, oil, lacquer and other contamination.
- Collect fine, clean sanding dust from the same timber being filled.
- Avoid contaminated dust collected from previous floors, different species or unsuitable abrasive stages.
- Use a clean mixing container and application tool.
How To Mix and Apply
- Mix one part Morrells Mix & Fill with one or two parts of clean sanding dust.
- Adjust the amount of dust until a smooth paste is produced that can be spread easily without becoming excessively dry.
- Apply the mixture across the floor using the Bona Flat Bladed Trowel.
- Work diagonally and from several directions where necessary to force the filler completely into joints, nail holes, splits and shakes.
- Keep the trowel relatively flat and remove heavy ridges or accumulations from the timber surface.
- Allow the filler to dry completely for approximately 20–60 minutes, depending on the gaps and site conditions.
- Sand the dried surface using approximately 100–120 grit abrasive until all excess filler has been removed.
- Vacuum thoroughly and repeat the filling process where deeper joints require an additional application.
- Complete the required sanding sequence before applying the chosen stain or finishing system.
Recommended Application Tool
| Product | Recommended Use |
|---|---|
| Bona Flat Bladed Trowel | Recommended for spreading Mix & Fill across the complete floor, pressing the mixture firmly into joints and scraping away excess filler before drying. |

| Additional Stains and Coloured Finishes | Suitable options are available within our Coloured Oils and Wood Stains collection. |
Staining Advice: Always remove all filler residue from the face of the timber before staining. Filled joints can absorb colour differently from the surrounding wood, so complete a representative test area using the full stain and finishing system before treating the entire floor.
Safety: Follow the current product label and safety data sheet. Maintain good ventilation during application and drying, keep the product away from heat and ignition sources, and store the container tightly closed when not in use.
Always follow the application sequence for the selected stain, primer, lacquer or oil system. Compatibility does not remove the need to complete the correct sanding preparation and a representative test area before full application.
