Osmo Door-Oil is a specialist oil-and-wax finish developed for solid timber doors, selected veneered doors, door frames and interior joinery.
Its formulation penetrates into the timber while remaining microporous and breathable, helping to protect frequently handled wooden surfaces against dirt, moisture and everyday wear. The dried finish will not crack, peel, blister or flake and helps prevent the timber fibres from becoming dry and brittle over time.
Available in 3060 Clear Satin and 3033 Raw Matt, Osmo Door-Oil can either enrich the natural colour of the wood or help pale timber retain a lighter, freshly sanded appearance.
Wiltshire Wood Recommendation:
Choose Osmo Door-Oil for interior wooden doors rather than using a
general-purpose floor or furniture oil. It is particularly useful for
selected veneered doors, where a suitable low-build, breathable finish
is required.
Apply two exceptionally thin and even coats. For 3033 Raw Matt, shake and mix the product thoroughly, then remove or redistribute any visible white pigment before allowing the surface to dry.
Specialist Protection for Interior Wooden Doors
Doors are exposed to regular handling, fingerprints, cleaning, movement and changes in indoor humidity. Osmo Door-Oil protects the timber without enclosing it beneath a brittle surface film.
The cured finish remains elastic and microporous, allowing the wood to breathe naturally while reducing the risk of the surface becoming dry, brittle or difficult to maintain.
Veneered Door Approval: Always check the door manufacturer’s instructions before sanding or coating a veneered door. Veneers can be extremely thin, and some door manufacturers specify particular preparation methods or finishes.

Which Osmo Oil Is Right for Me?
| Osmo Finish | Best For | Key Difference |
|---|---|---|
| Osmo Polyx-Oil Original | Wooden floors, staircases, furniture and general absorbent interior timber. | General-purpose high-solid hardwax oil designed particularly for flooring and interior woodwork. |
| Osmo Polyx-Oil Rapid | Floors and furniture where a faster coating programme is required. | Fast-drying clear protection that can allow two coats in one day. |
| Osmo Polyx-Oil Tints | Adding transparent colour to solid timber floors, furniture and suitable joinery. | Coloured oil system available in a range of transparent shades. |
| Osmo Polyx-Oil Effect Raw | Pale floors and furniture where a freshly sanded appearance is required. | White-pigmented floor and furniture finish that reduces the usual warming caused by clear oil. |
| Osmo TopOil | Wooden kitchen worktops, dining tables, desks, shelving and furniture. | Food-safe finish developed specifically for wooden work surfaces. |
| Osmo Door-Oil | Interior wooden doors, frames, linings and suitable joinery. | Purpose-designed finish for solid and selected veneered doors. |
Choose Your Finish
| Finish | Appearance | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| 3060 Clear Satin | A warm, clear finish that enriches the grain and natural colour of the timber with a subtle satin sheen. | Oak and other suitable woods where a traditional, richer oiled appearance is wanted. |
| 3033 Raw Matt | A lightly white-pigmented matt finish that helps pale timber retain a light, nearly untreated appearance. | Pale oak, ash and other light-coloured woods where minimal colour change is preferred. |
Clear Satin Enriches the Timber: Door-Oil 3060 creates a permanent wet-look effect, making the wood appear warmer, richer and darker than freshly sanded timber.
Raw Matt Contains White Pigment: Door-Oil 3033 Raw counteracts the usual darkening caused by clear oil. Apply it exceptionally thinly and remove visible pigment before drying. Heavy application can leave a pale, cloudy or chalky appearance.
Door-Oil 3060 Clear Satin vs 3033 Raw Matt
| Feature | 3060 Clear Satin | 3033 Raw Matt |
|---|---|---|
| Colour effect | Warms and enriches the timber. | Helps pale timber remain light. |
| Sheen | Subtle satin. | Low-sheen matt. |
| Pigmentation | Clear. | Lightly white pigmented. |
| Best suited to | Timber where natural colour enrichment is wanted. | Pale timber where a nearly untreated look is wanted. |
| Application care | Apply thinly and evenly. | Apply especially thinly and remove visible white pigment. |

Interior Use Only: Osmo Door-Oil is intended for interior wooden doors, frames and joinery. It is not designed as an exterior entrance-door, window, cladding or garden-furniture finish.
Before Oiling a Veneered Door
Veneered doors require more care than solid timber because the visible wood layer may be extremely thin.
- Check the door manufacturer’s finishing instructions.
- Confirm that oil finishing is permitted.
- Confirm whether sanding or renovation is allowed.
- Avoid aggressive sanding that may cut through the veneer.
- Do not assume both faces use the same veneer construction.
- Complete a trial application in an inconspicuous area where possible.
- Do not coat over glue, silicone, polish or factory contamination.
- Apply the finish exceptionally thinly and evenly.
Important Veneer Advice:
Never attempt to remove a failed finish from a veneered door using the
same aggressive sanding process that may be suitable for solid timber.
If the manufacturer does not approve sanding or refinishing, do not
proceed.
Surfaces Requiring Extra Care
| Surface | Consideration | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Veneered doors | Veneer thickness, adhesive and factory treatment may limit sanding or coating options. | Follow the door manufacturer’s instructions and trial before full application. |
| Dark or reddish timber with 3033 Raw | White pigment may appear cloudy or chalky. | Use 3060 Clear Satin or another suitable finish following a trial. |
| Ingredient-rich hardwoods | Natural oils and extractives can interfere with absorption and drying. | Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin may be more suitable for solid exotic timber. |
| Bathroom or wet-room doors | Increased humidity and moisture place extra demand on the finish. | Osmo Wood Protector 4006 may be considered as a base coat on suitable solid timber, subject to testing and manufacturer approval. |
| Previously painted or lacquered doors | Door-Oil cannot penetrate through a film-forming coating. | Completely remove the previous finish where the door construction allows. |
| Cabinet and cupboard interiors | Restricted ventilation can delay drying and retain odour. | Apply no more than one exceptionally thin cloth coat. |
Recommended Application Tools
| Application Tool | Best For | How It Is Used |
|---|---|---|
| Osmo Flat Brush | Controlled application to door faces, frames, edges and moulded sections. | Apply thinly with the grain and stretch the finish evenly without leaving heavy brush marks. |
| Osmo Microfibre Roller | Larger flat door faces where fast and even application is required. | Load the roller lightly and spread the finish evenly, then check edges and overlaps before drying. |
| Applicator Fleece | Applying an exceptionally thin second coat or refreshing smaller flat areas. | Use a small amount of product and work it thoroughly along the grain, leaving no visible excess. |
| Wood Coating Brushes | Door edges, frames, architraves, panels, mouldings and detailed joinery. | Select a brush suited to the component and check corners for runs or pigment build-up. |
Our Preferred Door Method:
For a flat door face, apply Door-Oil thinly with a suitable microfibre
roller or
Osmo Flat Brush
.
Lay the finish off consistently along the grain and check all edges,
panels and mouldings before it begins to dry.
For 3033 Raw Matt, inspect the surface from several angles and remove any visible white pigment or heavy overlap marks.

Available Sizes
| Size | Approximate Coverage Per Coat | Recommended Use |
|---|---|---|
| 5ml Sample Sachet | Small test area | Checking colour change, sheen and Raw pigment appearance on the actual door. |
| 125ml Sample Tin | Up to approximately 3m² | Larger test areas, smaller joinery items or individual components. |
| 1L | Up to approximately 24m² | Multiple doors, frames and larger interior joinery projects. |
Coverage is based on approximately 24m² per litre for one thin coat. Actual coverage will vary according to timber species, porosity, sanding, surface texture and the amount applied.
Calculate for Two Coats: The stated coverage is for one coat. New untreated doors normally require two thin coats, so 1 litre will typically complete up to approximately 12m² as a full two-coat system.

Coverage and drying times are approximate. Temperature, humidity, ventilation, timber species, veneer construction and application thickness will affect the result.
Surface Preparation
- Ensure the timber is clean, dry, frost-free and free from grease, polish, wax, silicone and contamination.
- Timber moisture content must not exceed approximately 18%.
- Shake and mix Door-Oil thoroughly before use, especially 3033 Raw.
- Do not thin the product.
- Completely remove old paints, varnishes and lacquers where the door construction permits.
- Clean compatible old microporous oil finishes thoroughly before recoating.
- Confirm that veneered doors can be sanded and refinished.
- For solid timber doors, sand consistently and normally complete the final sanding around P120–P150.
- Avoid sanding too finely when using 3033 Raw, as reduced absorption may leave white pigment sitting visibly on the surface.
- Vacuum thoroughly, including panels, mouldings, edges, joints and corners.
- Fill suitable cracks, joints and holes before the final sanding stage.
- Apply the first coat to all faces and edges before installation where practical.
- Complete a representative test area before treating the complete door.
Shake Raw Matt Thoroughly: The white pigment in 3033 Raw can settle during storage. Failure to mix the product completely may cause patchiness or an inconsistent Raw appearance.
New Door Application
- Bring the product to normal room temperature and shake or stir it thoroughly. Do not thin.
- Ensure the door is clean, dry and completely free from sanding dust.
- Support the door securely in a clean, well-ventilated area.
- Where practical, apply the first coat to both faces, edges and concealed areas before installation.
- Apply the first coat thinly using an Osmo Flat Brush or suitable microfibre roller.
- Work with the timber grain and spread the product evenly.
- Check panels, mouldings, corners, edges and joints for heavy deposits or runs.
- For 3033 Raw, remove or redistribute visible white pigment before drying.
- Allow the first coat to dry for approximately 12–24 hours with good ventilation.
- Once completely dry, apply the second coat equally thinly.
- Continue ventilating throughout drying.
- Avoid closing the door tightly against seals or frames until the finish is dry.
Professional Application Tip:
Keep the coating thin and consistent across the whole door face. Heavy
application around mouldings, panel edges and lower rails can lead to
runs, slow drying and visible sheen differences.
Applying 3033 Raw Matt
- Shake and stir the product thoroughly to distribute the white pigment.
- Apply an exceptionally thin coat with the timber grain.
- Work methodically and avoid heavy overlaps.
- Inspect the door from several angles while the coating remains wet.
- Brush out or remove any visible white pigment, cloudy areas or heavy marks.
- Pay particular attention to mouldings, open grain and coarse sanding marks where pigment may collect.
- Allow the first coat to dry fully before applying the second.
- Apply the second coat just as thinly and consistently.
Raw Matt Is Intended for Pale Timber: On dark, reddish, smoked or exotic timber, the white pigment may remain visible as a pale haze. Always complete a representative trial before proceeding.
Applying to Frames, Linings and Architraves
- Prepare and sand the timber consistently.
- Remove all dust and contamination.
- Use a suitably sized brush for mouldings, rebates and detailed sections.
- Apply Door-Oil very thinly with the grain.
- Check corners and rebates for runs or heavy build-up.
- Avoid coating rubber seals, ironmongery and adjacent finished surfaces.
- Allow the first coat to dry fully before applying the second.
- Keep doors open or suitably supported until the finish has dried.
Drying and Use
| Stage | Approximate Time | Guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Between coats | Approximately 12–24 hours | The first coat must be completely dry before applying the second. |
| Careful handling | Once the final coat has dried | Avoid impact, aggressive cleaning and prolonged contact with seals. |
| Normal use | After sufficient drying and curing | Maintain ventilation and avoid heavy use while the coating develops. |
Ventilation Is Essential: Low temperatures, high humidity, restricted airflow or heavy application can considerably extend the drying time and retain the typical smell of drying oil.
Cleaning and Maintenance
| Maintenance Stage | Recommended Product | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Routine cleaning | Osmo Spray Cleaner | Mild everyday cleaning of oiled and waxed door surfaces. |
| Stubborn marks on 3060 Satin | Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner Clear | Removes stubborn scuff marks and refreshes the satin appearance. |
| 3033 Raw maintenance | Matching Door-Oil 3033 Raw | Refreshes worn areas without introducing additional shine. |
| Renovation | Matching Osmo Door-Oil finish | Restores protection when slight signs of wear become visible. |
Do Not Use Liquid Wax Cleaner on 3033 Raw: Clear Liquid Wax Cleaner can increase the sheen and alter the nearly invisible matt appearance of Raw-finished doors.
Use a soft cloth and avoid saturating the door with water. Remove fingerprints, dirt and spillages promptly, particularly around handles, lower rails and frequently touched edges.
Renovating a Previously Oiled Door
- Remove dust and loose dirt.
- Clean the door using a suitable Osmo cleaning product.
- Allow the surface to dry completely.
- Inspect for polish, silicone, grease, deep scratches or failed areas.
- Confirm that any veneered surface can be safely prepared.
- Lightly prepare damaged areas where appropriate.
- Remove all dust.
- Apply one exceptionally thin coat of the matching Door-Oil finish.
- Feather local repairs carefully into the surrounding area.
- Ventilate well and allow the coating to dry before closing or handling heavily.
Recoat Before the Timber Becomes Bare:
Apply a maintenance coat when slight wear becomes visible. Renovating
early is usually much easier than attempting to repair timber that has
become dirty, stained or completely unprotected.
Important Application Notes
- Use on suitable interior wooden doors and joinery only.
- Apply two exceptionally thin coats to new bare timber.
- Shake and stir thoroughly before use.
- Do not thin the product.
- Apply with an Osmo Flat Brush or suitable microfibre roller.
- Maintain good ventilation during drying.
- Allow approximately 12–24 hours between coats.
- Check door-manufacturer guidance before treating veneered doors.
- Avoid aggressive sanding of thin veneers.
- Clear Satin enriches and darkens the natural timber colour.
- Raw Matt contains white pigment and is intended mainly for pale timber.
- Remove visible white pigment before allowing Raw to dry.
- Heavy application can cause slow drying and uneven sheen.
- Ingredient-rich solid hardwoods may require Clear Extra Thin.
- Apply only one exceptionally thin cloth coat inside cupboards.
- Avoid multipurpose cleaners, washing-up liquid, bleach and abrasives.
- Always complete a trial application on the actual timber.
Tool Cleaning
Clean suitable brushes, rollers and application tools immediately after use with Osmo Brush Cleaner & Thinner .
Do not reuse applicators containing uncured Clear Satin when applying Raw Matt, as contamination may alter the final appearance.
Oil-Soaked Cloth Safety: Cloths, pads and absorbent materials contaminated with drying oils can generate heat while curing. Lay them flat outdoors to dry safely or store them in a suitable sealed metal container before disposal in accordance with the safety data.
