Wiltshire Wood Recommendation:
Choose Bona Intense when you want to enrich the timber with a warm, medium-rich colour without creating the deeper amber appearance produced by Bona Amber. For demanding domestic and commercial floors, finish with two coats of Bona Traffic HD . For a convenient one-component system suitable for heavy domestic and medium commercial use, choose Bona Mega EVO .
Compatible Topcoats
| Compatible Finish | Recommended Use | Finished Appearance |
|---|---|---|
| Bona Traffic HD | Heavy domestic and demanding commercial floors | Maximum durability while retaining the warm, medium-rich colour created by Bona Intense |
| Bona Mega EVO | Heavy domestic and medium commercial floors | Warm natural appearance with convenient one-component application |
| Bona Traffic HD Raw | High-traffic floors requiring an ultra-matt surface | Ultra-matt protection with a warmer, richer timber colour beneath |
Bona Intense is designed for use beneath Bona waterborne wood floor lacquers. Select the performance level and sheen required for the finished floor, and always test the complete primer and topcoat system on the actual timber before treating the full area.

Recommended Application Tools
- Bona SuperCoat Roller Head 250mm – designed for even application of Bona primers and lacquers.
- Bona 250mm Roller Handle – compatible with the Bona SuperCoat Roller Head.
- Telescopic Extension Pole & Bona Roller Set – a complete applicator set for larger flooring areas.
Floor Preparation
- Sand the floor evenly back to clean, bare timber.
- Use a consistent final sanding sequence across the complete area.
- Vacuum thoroughly, including edges, joints and corners.
- Ensure the timber is dry and free from oil, wax, polish and contamination.
- Bring the primer, timber and room to a suitable working temperature.
- Test the complete primer and topcoat system on the actual timber.
Application
- Shake or mix Bona Intense thoroughly before use.
- Apply one even coat using a Bona SuperCoat Roller , working methodically and maintaining a wet edge.
- Avoid excessive film build, puddles and uneven roller overlap.
- Allow approximately 1–2 hours to dry under normal conditions.
- Once fully dry, lightly abrade only where required by the selected Bona finishing system.
- Vacuum carefully to remove all sanding residue.
- Apply the chosen compatible Bona waterborne lacquer in accordance with its current Technical Data Sheet.
Recommended Gap Preparation
Where fine joints and minor imperfections require filling before priming, use Bona Mix & Fill Plus . Allow the filler to dry fully, complete the final sanding process and vacuum thoroughly before applying Bona Intense.
Important: Bona Intense enriches the natural colour of the timber, and the final appearance will vary according to the wood species, sanding sequence, application rate and selected topcoat. Dense, oily and tropical timbers should always be tested before full application. Maintain a wet edge and avoid localised touch-ins, as differences in film build may remain visible after finishing.
