Morrells Induro Isosil Shellac Wood Floor Sealer & Primer is a professional alcohol-based barrier sealer formulated with refined shellacs to isolate natural oils, waxes and residual contamination within timber flooring.
It is particularly suited to tropical and naturally oily hardwoods where contaminants may interfere with the adhesion, drying or final appearance of waterborne floor lacquers.
Isosil is also highly useful when refurbishing older timber floors where traces of previous waxes, polishes or treatments may remain within the wood. Once dry, it creates a clear isolation layer ready for overcoating with compatible Morrells Induro floor lacquers.
Supplied in a 5 litre container.
Why Choose Morrells Induro Isosil?
- Professional shellac-based barrier primer
- Fast drying and rapidly recoatable
- Isolates natural oils, waxes and timber contaminants
- Ideal for tropical and naturally oily hardwoods
- Excellent clarity with minimal colour change
- Useful when refurbishing previously treated timber floors
- Improves the reliability of subsequent lacquer systems
- Compatible with Morrells Induro floor lacquers
Typical Uses
- Tropical hardwood flooring
- Teak, iroko, merbau and other naturally oily timbers
- Resinous timber species
- Refurbished floors with possible wax or polish contamination
- Timber previously exposed to oils or unknown treatments
- Problematic substrates where lacquer adhesion may be affected
- Isolation coat beneath Morrells Induro lacquer systems
Wiltshire Wood Recommendation:
Use Morrells Isosil where the timber is naturally oily, tropical,
resinous or potentially contaminated. It creates a barrier between the
timber and the waterborne lacquer system, helping prevent adhesion,
curing and appearance problems.
For clean oak, pine and most standard flooring timbers, use Morrells Induro GP Wood Floor Sealer instead.
Isosil or GP Wood Floor Sealer?
| Sealer | System | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Morrells Induro Isosil | Shellac and alcohol-based barrier sealer | Tropical, naturally oily, resinous or potentially contaminated timber floors. |
| Morrells Induro GP Sealer | Ready-to-use waterborne floor primer | Oak, pine and most clean standard hardwood and engineered flooring timbers. |
Isosil is not intended to replace GP Sealer on every floor. Use it where a barrier coat is required because of the timber species, previous treatment or possible contamination.
Compatible Morrells Lacquers
| Compatible Finish | System | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Morrells Induro XL1 |
1K waterborne polyurethane lacquer No catalyst required |
Domestic and light to medium commercial floors where convenient ready-to-use application is preferred. |
| Morrells Induro XL2 |
2K waterborne polyurethane lacquer Catalyst included |
Busy domestic, commercial and high-traffic floors requiring greater abrasion, chemical and mechanical resistance. |
Allow Isosil to dry completely before applying the selected Morrells Induro lacquer. Always test the complete sealer and lacquer system on the actual timber before treating the full floor.
Compatible Morrells Wood Stains
Isosil may form part of a coloured Morrells floor-finishing system where a suitable interior wood stain has been applied and allowed to dry fully. The stain, sealer and lacquer system should always be tested together before full application.
| Stain Range | Appearance | Application Guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Morrells Light Fast Wood Stain | Fast-drying translucent colour with strong grain definition. | Apply evenly, remove excess stain and allow it to dry completely before applying Isosil. |
| Morrells SCANDI Wood Stains | Contemporary Nordic-inspired natural and pigmented colours. | Carry out a representative stain, sealer and lacquer test to confirm colour and adhesion before treating the floor. |
Staining Important: Only use suitable interior wood stains beneath the finishing system. Remove all excess stain and allow it to dry fully. Heavy deposits, wax-containing stains or exterior products may interfere with adhesion and should not be used without confirmation from the manufacturer.
Recommended Morrells Systems
| Floor or Condition | Recommended System |
|---|---|
| Tropical or naturally oily timber | 1 thin coat of Morrells Isosil followed by the required coats of Induro XL1 or Induro XL2 . |
| Previously treated or potentially contaminated floor | Sand and clean thoroughly, carry out a test area, then apply one coat of Isosil followed by the selected Morrells Induro lacquer. |
| Stained tropical or oily timber | Suitable Morrells interior wood stain , followed by Isosil and the selected Induro lacquer system. |
| Fine joints and minor surface defects | Fill before final sanding using Morrells Mix & Fill , then complete the sanding and coating system. |
| Clean oak, pine or standard hardwood | Use Morrells Induro GP Sealer instead, unless contamination is suspected. |

Floor Preparation
- Inspect the floor and countersink protruding nails or fixings.
- Sand the timber evenly back to a clean, bare and consistent surface.
- Where suitable, fill fine joints after the 80–100 grit sanding stage using Morrells Mix & Fill mixed with clean sanding dust.
- Complete the final sanding sequence across the full floor.
- Vacuum thoroughly, including joints, edges and corners.
- Ensure the surface is dry and free from loose contamination.
- Where previous waxes, oils or treatments are suspected, complete a representative adhesion test before full application.
- If staining, apply the stain evenly, remove all excess and allow it to dry completely before sealing.
Application
- Stir or agitate the product thoroughly before application.
- Apply one thin, even coat using a suitable professional floor applicator.
- Work methodically with the direction of the timber grain.
- Avoid heavy deposits, puddling and excessive overlap.
- Maintain good ventilation because the product is alcohol based.
- Allow approximately 90 minutes drying at 18°C before overcoating.
- Once fully dry, apply the selected Morrells Induro floor lacquer in accordance with its current Technical Data Sheet.
Recommended Application Accessories
- Professional floor applicators and compatible rollers for controlled, even application.
- Clean trays and application vessels suitable for alcohol and shellac-based coatings.
- Professional extraction and vacuuming equipment for complete dust removal before coating.
- Suitable PPE and adequate ventilation in accordance with the Safety Data Sheet.
Important: Morrells Isosil is an alcohol-based, fast-drying professional barrier sealer. Keep it away from ignition sources and provide effective ventilation throughout application and drying. It is intended to isolate contaminants, but it cannot compensate for inadequate sanding, active moisture problems or heavily contaminated timber. Always carry out a test area and follow the current Morrells Technical and Safety Data Sheets.
