Morrells Light Fast Wood Floor Stain is a professional, fast-drying alcohol-based stain formulated to create excellent grain definition, depth of colour and an even translucent finish on interior timber.

Suitable for wooden floors, furniture, joinery and other interior timber, its non-grain-raising formulation dries rapidly and uses lightfast pigments to provide improved resistance to colour fading.

Available in 100ml sample, 1L and 5L sizes across a wide range of traditional timber shades and contemporary colours.

Colour Notice: Digital colour charts and photographs are a guide only. Timber species, grain, sanding sequence, application method and the selected sealer or topcoat will all affect the final colour. We strongly recommend ordering a 100ml sample and testing the complete stain and finishing system on the actual timber before treating the full floor.

Wiltshire Wood Recommendation:
Apply the stain evenly using an Osmo Floor Brush across the main floor area, then lay off and remove excess using Bona Oil Cloths . This helps produce an even colour while reducing heavy deposits, lap marks and patchiness.

Use a suitable smaller brush from our wood coating brush range for cutting in around skirting boards, doorways, corners and detailed areas.

Recommended Application Tools

Application Tool Best For How It Is Used
Osmo Floor Brush 150mm Applying stain efficiently across larger floor areas while working from a standing position. Apply the stain evenly with the timber grain, working in manageable sections and maintaining a wet edge.
Bona Oil Cloths Laying off the freshly applied stain and removing excess material. Wipe consistently with the grain to even out the colour and prevent heavy deposits, streaks and patchy drying.
Wood Coating Brushes Cutting in around skirting boards, door frames, thresholds, corners and awkward areas. Choose a suitable wide or narrow brush depending on the area being treated and blend carefully into the main stained section.

The stain may also be applied with clean lint-free cloths, mohair pads or other suitable professional stain applicators. The key is to apply evenly, remove excess consistently and avoid allowing visible edges to dry before adjoining sections are blended.

Recommended Morrells Floor Systems

Floor or Requirement Recommended System
Domestic oak, pine and standard hardwood floors Morrells Light Fast Stain → Morrells Induro GP Sealer Morrells Induro XL1 .
Busy domestic or high-traffic commercial floors Morrells Light Fast Stain → Morrells Induro GP Sealer Morrells Induro XL2 .
Tropical, oily or potentially contaminated timber Morrells Light Fast Stain → Morrells Induro Isosil → selected compatible Morrells Induro lacquer.
Fine joints and minor surface defects Fill before the final sanding stage using Morrells Mix & Fill , then complete the final sanding before staining.

Compatible Morrells Sealers

Sealer Best For Purpose
Morrells Induro GP Sealer Oak, pine and most clean standard flooring timbers Locks in the stain, promotes lacquer adhesion and enhances the warmth and grain of the timber.
Morrells Induro Isosil Tropical, oily, resinous or potentially contaminated timber Creates a shellac-based isolation layer between problematic timber and the waterborne lacquer system.

Compatible Morrells Lacquers

Finish System Best For
Morrells Induro XL1 1K waterborne polyurethane lacquer
No catalyst required
Domestic and light to medium commercial floors where convenient, ready-to-use application is preferred.
Morrells Induro XL2 2K waterborne polyurethane lacquer
Catalyst included
Busy domestic, commercial and high-traffic environments requiring increased abrasion, chemical and mechanical resistance.

The stain must be fully dry before sealing. Always test the complete stain, sealer and lacquer system together because clear finishes may deepen or enrich the stained colour.

Other Compatible Finishing Options

Because Morrells Light Fast is a fast-drying alcohol-based stain that does not leave a heavy surface film, it can also form part of a wider range of professional lacquer and hardwax-oil systems once it has dried completely and all excess stain has been removed.

Finish Range Typical Result Important Guidance
Bona Wood Floor Lacquers Durable waterborne lacquer protection in a choice of sheen levels, including professional 1K and 2K polyurethane systems. Allow the stain to dry fully, remove all excess and complete a test area using the intended Bona primer and lacquer system. A clear lacquer may deepen the stained colour.
Osmo Polyx-Oil Rapid A natural hardwax-oil appearance with a durable, microporous finish and faster drying than standard Polyx-Oil. Apply only after the stain has dried completely. Test absorption, colour and curing on the actual timber before treating the full floor.
Osmo Polyx-Oils & Interior Hardwax Oils A natural oiled appearance that enhances the stained colour and allows straightforward local maintenance. Compatibility and absorption will vary according to the timber, sanding sequence, stain application and drying. Always test the full stained-and-oiled system first.
Morrells Induro XL1 or Morrells Induro XL2 The fully matched Morrells flooring system with predictable colour, adhesion and performance. This remains the most directly supported system. Apply the correct GP or Isosil sealer before the selected Induro lacquer.

Cross-Brand Compatibility: Morrells Light Fast Stain is commonly used beneath different professional finishing systems, but absorption, adhesion, drying and final colour can vary. Remove all excess, allow the stain to dry fully and complete a representative test using the exact stain, timber and finish intended for the project.

Available Sizes

Size Recommended Use
100ml Sample Testing colour and the complete finishing system on the actual timber before ordering a larger quantity.
1L Smaller flooring areas, joinery, furniture and localised projects.
5L Larger floors, commercial projects and professional applications.

Colour Selection

The range includes traditional wood shades, deeper mahogany and walnut colours, pale oak and pine tones, primary colours and specialist shades. Select the required size and colour using the product options above.

Popular options include Teak, Medium Oak, Antique Pine, Light Oak, Dark Oak, Walnut, Rosewood, Mahogany, Jacobean, Victorian Pine, Natural Mahogany, Honey Pine, Black and White.

Always Sample First: The same stain colour can look substantially different on oak, pine, engineered veneers and previously sanded floors. Final sanding grit also affects absorption and colour intensity. Test the 100ml sample using the exact preparation, sealer and topcoat intended for the finished floor.

Floor Preparation

  • Inspect the floor and countersink protruding nails or fixings.
  • Sand the floor evenly back to clean, bare timber.
  • Fill suitable fine joints and imperfections using Morrells Mix & Fill before completing the final sanding sequence.
  • Complete the same final sanding grit consistently across the full area.
  • Vacuum thoroughly, including floor joints, edges and corners.
  • Ensure the timber is clean, dry and free from wax, oil and contamination.
  • Test the stain and complete finishing system on the actual timber.

Application

  1. Stir or shake the stain thoroughly before and during use to maintain an even colour.
  2. Cut in around skirting boards, corners, doorways and other detailed areas using a suitable brush from our wood coating brush range .
  3. Apply the stain across the main floor area using the Osmo Floor Brush , working evenly with the timber grain.
  4. On floorboards, work the brush carefully across and along the boards where required so the stain reaches bevels, joints and the sides of the boards without leaving heavy deposits.
  5. Work in manageable sections and maintain a wet edge because the stain dries quickly.
  6. Immediately lay off the freshly stained area using Bona Oil Cloths , removing excess stain and evening out the colour with the grain.
  7. Use a consistent wiping pressure and change cloths as they become heavily loaded with stain.
  8. Avoid overlapping onto sections that have already started to dry, as this may create darker edges or visible lap marks.
  9. Apply a second coat only where additional colour intensity is required and after the first coat has dried.
  10. For wood flooring, allow a minimum of approximately two hours at 18°C before applying the selected sealer, lacquer or compatible hardwax oil.

Floor-Staining Tip:
The Osmo Floor Brush makes large areas much easier because the stain can be applied while standing upright. The most important stage is laying off promptly with clean Bona Oil Cloths, as this controls the final colour and helps prevent uneven deposits.

Sealing & Aftercare

  • Morrells Light Fast Wood Stain is a colour treatment and must be protected with a compatible sealer, lacquer or hardwax-oil system.
  • For the fully matched Morrells system, use Morrells Induro GP Sealer or Morrells Induro Isosil , followed by the selected Induro lacquer.
  • Compatible Bona lacquer or Osmo hardwax-oil systems may also be used after full drying and successful testing.
  • Once the complete finishing system has cured, maintain the surface using products suitable for the selected lacquered or oiled finish.

Important: Morrells Light Fast Wood Stain is an alcohol-based professional product. Provide effective ventilation and keep it away from heat, sparks and ignition sources. The stain does not provide wear or moisture protection by itself and must be protected with a suitable finishing system. Dispose of used stain and oil cloths safely in accordance with the relevant product safety guidance.
