Wiltshire Wood Recommendation:
For the closest appearance to freshly sanded, untreated timber, apply one even coat of Bona Natural Primer followed by two coats of Bona Traffic HD Raw.
Alternatively, choose the Bona Natural & Traffic HD Raw Lacquer Bundle , which contains the primer, lacquer, hardeners and application tools required to treat up to approximately 50m².
Traffic HD Raw, Traffic HD or Mega EVO?
| Product | System | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Bona Traffic HD Raw | 2K waterborne polyurethane lacquer Hardener included |
Demanding floors requiring excellent durability while preserving the appearance and feel of untreated timber. |
| Bona Traffic HD | 2K waterborne polyurethane lacquer Hardener included |
Extreme domestic and commercial traffic where maximum durability and rapid return to use are the priorities. |
| Bona Mega EVO | 1K self-crosslinking waterborne lacquer No hardener required |
Heavy domestic and medium commercial use where convenient one-component application is preferred. |
Choose Bona Traffic HD Raw when retaining the untreated appearance and tactile feel of the timber is essential. Choose standard Traffic HD where maximum speed and commercial durability are the main priorities. Choose Mega EVO where a ready-to-use one-component system is preferred.
Compatible Bona Primers
| Compatible Primer | Colour Effect | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Bona Natural Primer | Light, freshly sanded raw wood appearance | The recommended system for achieving the closest untreated timber appearance. |
| Bona Classic UX | Medium-light natural timber colour | A dependable all-round primer where a slightly warmer natural appearance is preferred. |
| Bona White | Whitewashed Scandinavian appearance | Pale oak, ash, pine and modern whitewashed finishing systems. |
| Bona Intense | Medium-rich, warm timber colour | Floors requiring a warmer timber colour beneath an ultra-matt surface. |
| Bona Amber | Rich, traditional amber colour | Oak and darker timber floors where a warmer traditional base is required beneath the ultra-matt lacquer. |
Bona Traffic HD Raw can be used over compatible Bona primers. Primer choice will influence the colour beneath the ultra-matt surface, so always test the complete system on the actual timber before treating the full floor.
Recommended Coating Systems
| Desired Result | Recommended System |
|---|---|
| Closest untreated timber appearance | 1 coat of Bona Natural Primer followed by 2 coats of Bona Traffic HD Raw. |
| Stronger raw-white effect | 2 coats of Bona Natural Primer followed by 1 coat of Bona Traffic HD Raw, ensuring the complete floor receives 3 coats in total. |
| Alternative natural colour | 1 coat of a compatible Bona primer followed by 2 coats of Bona Traffic HD Raw. |
| Coloured oil and lacquer system | 1 carefully applied coat of Bona Craft Oil 2K followed by 2 coats of Bona Traffic HD Raw, in accordance with Bona's current system instructions. |
The surface should receive three coats in total. Do not apply more than two full coats of primer and/or lacquer in one day because excessive moisture may cause timber swelling.

Recommended Application Tools
- Bona SuperCoat Roller Head 250mm – its fleece pile is optimised for an even application of Bona primers and lacquers.
- Bona 250mm Roller Handle – compatible with the Bona SuperCoat Roller Head.
- Telescopic Extension Pole & Bona Roller Set – a complete application setup for larger flooring areas.
- Bona Mixing Bottle – recommended when mixing smaller quantities to maintain the correct lacquer-to-hardener ratio.
Floor Preparation
- Allow the floor to acclimatise to its normal end-use environment.
- Sand untreated flooring evenly back to clean, bare timber.
- Complete the final sanding sequence consistently across the full area.
- Remove all sanding dust using professional extraction and vacuuming.
- Ensure the surface is dry and free from oil, wax, polish and contamination.
- Allow the lacquer and hardener to reach room temperature before mixing.
- Ideal application conditions are approximately 18–25°C and 30–60% relative humidity. The minimum application temperature is 13°C.
Mixing
- Shake the lacquer container thoroughly before adding the supplied hardener.
- Add the complete 0.41L hardener to the 4.54L lacquer when mixing the full pack.
- Immediately shake the combined mixture vigorously for approximately 60 seconds.
- Use the mixed product within a maximum of approximately three hours. Warmer conditions will shorten the working time.
- When mixing smaller quantities, use the Bona Mixing Bottle and follow the measurement divisions on the hardener container.
Application
- Apply evenly using a Bona roller at approximately 8–10m² per litre.
- Roll alternately across and with the direction of the timber grain.
- Maintain a wet edge and avoid puddles, heavy deposits and dry overlaps.
- Allow each coat to dry properly for approximately 2–3 hours before continuing.
- Where required, carry out intermediate abrasion using the Bona Scrad System at P150 grit or finer, then remove all sanding dust.
- If the previous coat has dried for longer than 24 hours, intermediate abrasion is mandatory before recoating.
- Do not apply more than two full coats of primer and/or lacquer in one day.
- Maintain good ventilation throughout application and drying.
Gap & Surface Preparation
Before applying the primer or lacquer, fill fine joints and minor defects using Bona Mix & Fill Plus . Allow the filler to dry fully, complete the final sanding process and remove all dust before coating.
Cleaning & Maintenance
- Use a pH-neutral cleaner specifically designed for lacquered wood flooring.
- Avoid steam cleaners, strong household detergents and excessive water.
- Carefully used foot traffic may be possible after approximately eight hours, but the surface remains vulnerable to scratching.
- Allow approximately 24 hours before light use.
- Do not damp mop or cover the floor with rugs until it has fully cured after approximately seven days.
- Use suitable felt protection beneath furniture and avoid dragging heavy objects across the floor.
Important: Bona Traffic HD Raw must be mixed accurately with its supplied hardener. Once mixed, the polyurethane lacquer has a maximum working time of approximately three hours and cannot be stored for later use. Although careful foot traffic may be possible after around eight hours, allow approximately 24 hours before light use and seven days for full cure. Do not cover or damp mop the floor until fully cured.
