Bona Amber Warm Wood Floor Primer is a one-component, waterborne polyurethane primer designed to give untreated timber a rich, warm amber colour similar to the appearance traditionally associated with solvent-based floor finishes.

Particularly well suited to oak, darker timbers and tropical wood species, Bona Amber also helps reduce the risk of side-bonding and is an excellent choice for floors with underfloor heating or increased seasonal movement, including plank and end-grain floors.

Floor Preparation

Sand the floor evenly back to clean, bare timber.
Complete the final sanding pass consistently across the full area.
Vacuum the floor thoroughly, including joints, corners and edges.
Ensure the timber is dry and free from oil, wax, polish and contamination.
Bring the primer and floor to a suitable working temperature before use.
Test the complete primer and topcoat system on the actual timber.

Application

Shake or mix Bona Amber thoroughly before use to ensure an even product.
Apply an even first coat using a Bona SuperCoat Roller , working methodically and maintaining a wet edge.
Avoid heavy deposits, puddles and uneven roller overlap.
Allow approximately 1–2 hours to dry under normal conditions.
Apply a second even coat of Bona Amber.
Allow the primer system to dry fully before applying the selected Bona waterborne topcoat.
Apply the chosen lacquer in accordance with its current Technical Data Sheet.

Recommended Gap Preparation

Where fine joints or minor defects require filling before priming, use Bona Mix & Fill Plus . Allow the filler to dry completely and finish sanding the floor before applying Bona Amber.

Important: Bona Amber intentionally changes and enriches the colour of the timber. The final appearance will vary according to the wood species, sanding sequence, application rate and selected topcoat. Tropical timbers and highly coloured woods should always be tested first. Maintain a wet edge and avoid localised touch-ins, as differences in film build can affect the finished colour.
