F. Ball Digital Hygrometer is a professional in-situ relative humidity (RH) testing system designed to determine whether a concrete or screed subfloor is sufficiently dry before installing floor coverings.

Supplied complete with butyl sealing tape, the hygrometer creates a sealed environment over the prepared screed, allowing the relative humidity within the floor to stabilise before an accurate reading is taken. It also displays ambient air temperature, helping flooring installers assess site conditions before installation.

Ideal for wood flooring, LVT, vinyl, carpet and resilient flooring installations, the F. Ball Digital Hygrometer helps ensure moisture levels are checked correctly before adhesives or floor coverings are applied.

Why Choose the F. Ball Digital Hygrometer?

  • Professional in-situ relative humidity (RH) testing.
  • Suitable for concrete and screed moisture testing.
  • Supplied complete with butyl sealing tape.
  • Digital RH display.
  • Displays ambient temperature.
  • Pre-calibrated and ready to use.
  • Reusable professional testing equipment.
  • Suitable before installing wood flooring, LVT, vinyl and carpet.

Ideal For

  • Concrete subfloors.
  • Sand and cement screeds.
  • Calcium sulphate screeds.
  • Anhydrite screeds.
  • Wood flooring installations.
  • LVT and vinyl flooring.
  • Carpet and resilient flooring.
  • Professional flooring contractors.

Why Moisture Testing Matters

A screed can appear completely dry on the surface while still containing excessive moisture below. Installing flooring too early can result in adhesive failure, timber movement, floor distortion and costly remedial work.

Using an in-situ hygrometer is the recognised method of determining whether a cementitious screed has reached the moisture level required by the flooring manufacturer.

How to Use the F. Ball Digital Hygrometer

1. Prepare the Screed

Ensure the test area is clean and suitable for testing.

2. Seal the Hygrometer

Use the supplied butyl sealing tape to create an airtight seal between the hygrometer and the screed.

3. Allow the Reading to Stabilise

Leave the hygrometer in position until the relative humidity has stabilised in accordance with current testing guidance.

4. Read the Display

Record the relative humidity and compare it with the flooring manufacturer's maximum permitted moisture level before installation.

What If the Screed Is Too Wet?

If the measured relative humidity exceeds the flooring manufacturer's recommended limit, allow additional drying time or install a suitable moisture control system before laying the floor.

For many cementitious subfloors, this may include using F. Ball Stopgap F77 Epoxy Damp Proof Membrane followed by the appropriate Stopgap Primer and Stopgap Levelling Compound where required.

Digital Hygrometer vs Moisture Meter

  • Use a Digital Hygrometer to measure relative humidity within concrete and screeds.
  • Use a Protimeter TimberMaster or Digital Mini for measuring moisture content in timber.
  • Use a SurveyMaster or Aquant for locating moisture within building materials.
