Professional Sanding Advice
Start with the least aggressive grit capable of completing the required work. Progress through the grit sequence without making excessive jumps, as this helps remove previous sanding marks and creates a more consistent surface before finishing.
Choosing the Correct Grit
The correct starting grit will depend on the condition of the floor, the existing coating and the amount of timber that needs to be removed.
- Coarse grits: heavy finish removal, damaged surfaces and significant levelling.
- Medium grits: intermediate sanding and removal of coarse sanding marks.
- Fine grits: finer surface preparation during the final sanding stages.
Avoid moving directly from a very coarse grit to a fine grit. A suitable progressive sanding sequence will normally produce a cleaner and more uniform result.
