Professional Advice

Use Stopgap 400 for substantial or deep localised repairs before levelling the wider floor area. For applications deeper than 20mm, the compound should be mixed with the appropriate graded aggregate in accordance with the latest F. Ball Technical Data Sheet.

For fine surface imperfections, feather edging and smaller finishing repairs, use Stopgap Micro Rapid. Once larger repairs have hardened, the floor can be prepared with the appropriate Stopgap smoothing compound.

Prepare Your Subfloor Like a Professional

Correct moisture control, priming and repairs are essential before applying a smoothing compound or installing a new floor covering.

1. Check for Moisture

Test the subfloor before starting work. Where excess moisture is present, select a suitable product from our Liquid DPM collection and follow the relevant system requirements.

2. Select the Correct Primer

The primer required depends on the substrate and its absorbency. Browse our F. Ball levelling compound primers, including P121, P131 and P141, and follow the latest F. Ball guidance for the floor being repaired.

3. Choose the Right Repair Product

Stopgap 400 Repair is designed for cracks, holes, damaged screeds, stairs, steps, ramps and deep localised repairs.

Stopgap Micro Rapid is better suited to fine surface imperfections, feather edging, plywood joints and smaller finishing repairs.

4. Level the Floor Where Required

Stopgap Fast-Track 30 – Choose when installation speed is the main priority.

Stopgap 700 Superflex – Designed for plywood and other suitable flexible substrates.

Stopgap 1200 Pro – Ideal over suitable well-bonded adhesive residues.

Stopgap 300 HD – Heavy-duty smoothing compound for sound absorbent and non-absorbent subfloors.

Important Information

  • For internal use only.
  • The subfloor must be sound, clean and correctly prepared.
  • Do not exceed the recommended water quantity.
  • Use the filled mix for applications between 20mm and 50mm.
  • For larger areas, maintain a minimum application thickness of approximately 2–3mm.
  • Wash tools with clean water immediately after use.
  • Always read the latest F. Ball Technical Data Sheet before application.

*Working, setting and drying times are based on approximately 20°C. Lower temperatures, greater repair depths and unsuitable site conditions will extend these times. Coverage varies according to application depth, substrate condition and mixing method.
