Professional Advice
Before applying Stycco Flex, dry-position the trim or accessory and confirm that it fits correctly. The adhesive has a strong initial grab and begins curing quickly, so accurate positioning is important.
Always make sure both the accessory and the receiving surface are clean, sound and free from dust, oil, polish, loose material or anything else that could prevent adhesion.

How to Apply F. Ball Stycco Flex
1. Check the Surfaces
Both surfaces must be sound, clean and capable of supporting the installed component. Remove dust, grease, polish, loose paint, weak material and any contamination that could interfere with adhesion.
2. Dry-Fit the Trim
Cut and dry-position the trim, threshold, nosing or accessory before applying adhesive. Check the length, alignment and contact with the substrate.
3. Prepare the Cartridge
Cut the cartridge nozzle to provide the required bead size and fit the cartridge into a standard applicator gun.
4. Apply the Adhesive
Apply suitable continuous beads or evenly spaced adhesive lines to the back of the component or directly to the prepared substrate.
The precise bead size and spacing will depend on the size, shape and weight of the component, the surface condition and the level of contact required.
5. Position the Component
Install the component while the adhesive remains open. Press it firmly into position using even pressure to obtain effective adhesive transfer across the contact points.
6. Secure Where Necessary
Although Stycco Flex has high initial grab, heavier, sprung or awkward components may still need temporary tape, weights, bracing or another appropriate method of support until sufficient bond strength develops.
7. Remove Excess Adhesive
Remove wet adhesive immediately using a suitable cleaning product. Do not allow excess material to cure on finished timber, flooring or decorative surfaces.
Important Installation Information
- Always test compatibility on sensitive, coated or decorative surfaces before installation.
- Do not apply to dusty, weak, friable or contaminated substrates.
- The strength of the installation depends on the condition and stability of the receiving surface.
- Do not use the adhesive to compensate for an unsuitable, loose or structurally unsound substrate.
- Temporary support may still be required for heavy or tensioned components.
- Avoid excessive adhesive that could squeeze onto finished flooring or visible surfaces.
- Confirm compatibility before bonding natural stone, mirrors, highly sensitive plastics or specialist finishes.
- Exterior suitability depends on the substrate, component and complete installation being suitable for the environment.
- Always follow the latest F. Ball Technical Data Sheet before use.
Using Stycco Flex with Wood Flooring
Stycco Flex is not designed to replace a full-spread wood-flooring adhesive such as STYCCOBOND B95. However, it can be used for selected accessory and detail work during a wood-floor installation.
Typical examples include:
- Securing a header row while installing wood flooring.
- Fixing threshold profiles after the main floor has been installed.
- Installing selected stair nosings.
- Fixing skirting, architrave or perimeter mouldings.
- Bonding compatible finishing trims where mechanical fixing is undesirable.
