Build Your Perfect Subfloor
Correct preparation is essential for a smooth, strong and long-lasting flooring installation.
1. Check for Moisture
Test the subfloor before beginning. Where moisture control is required, select a compatible damp proof membrane from our Liquid DPM collection and follow the relevant manufacturer's system requirements.
2. Select the Correct Primer
The primer required depends on whether the substrate is absorbent or non-absorbent. View the full range of F. Ball levelling compound primers, including Stopgap P121, Stopgap P131 and Stopgap P141.
3. Repair Damaged Areas
Use Stopgap Micro Rapid for feather-edging, fine surface imperfections and small localised repairs. For deeper holes, damaged screeds and larger repairs, use Stopgap 400 Repair.
4. Choose the Right Levelling Compound
Stopgap Fast-Track 30 – Choose this when installation speed is the main priority.
Stopgap 700 Superflex – Fibre-modified smoothing compound for plywood and other flexible substrates.
Stopgap 1200 Pro – Ideal for applying over suitable well-bonded adhesive residues, including bitumen and carpet tile tackifier residues.
Stopgap 300 – The heavy-duty choice for sound absorbent and non-absorbent subfloors in light to heavy-duty environments.

- The subfloor must be sound, clean and correctly prepared.
- Remove contamination, loose material and incompatible residues before application.
- Use the correct primer for the substrate in accordance with F. Ball guidance.
- Do not exceed the stated water quantity, as this can reduce strength and performance.
- Always read the latest F. Ball Technical Data Sheet before use.
*Working, setting and drying times are based on approximately 20°C. Lower temperatures, increased humidity, poor airflow or thicker applications will extend drying times. Coverage will vary according to substrate condition and application thickness.
