Description

F. Ball Stopgap 1200 Pro is a high-performance two-part smoothing compound developed for preparing sound internal subfloors before installing new floor coverings. Supplied as a 20kg powder with a matching liquid component, it delivers excellent flow, rapid drying and an exceptionally smooth finish.

One of the biggest advantages of Stopgap 1200 Pro is that it can often be applied directly over well-bonded adhesive residues, including bitumen residues and carpet tile tackifiers, without the need for priming. This can significantly reduce preparation time on refurbishment projects while providing a strong, smooth base ready for wood flooring, LVT, vinyl, carpet and other resilient floor coverings.

Why Choose F. Ball Stopgap 1200 Pro?

  • Can be applied over suitable well-bonded adhesive residues.
  • Often eliminates the need for priming on refurbishment projects.
  • Fast setting and rapid drying.
  • Excellent self-smoothing properties.
  • Ready to receive most floor coverings from approximately 4 hours.
  • Apply from 2mm to 10mm in one application.
  • Can be bulked up to 30mm using suitable aggregate.

Professional Advice

Stopgap 1200 Pro is one of our preferred smoothing compounds for refurbishment work where existing adhesive residues are sound, well bonded and suitable for overcoating. It can save significant preparation time while still delivering a high-quality finish.

If repairs are required before levelling, use Stopgap 400 Repair for deeper repairs or Stopgap Micro Rapid for feather edging and small surface imperfections.

Prepare Your Subfloor Like a Professional

Correct preparation is essential for a smooth, durable and long-lasting flooring installation.

1. Check for Moisture

Test the subfloor before beginning. Where moisture control is required, select a suitable product from our Liquid DPM collection.

2. Select the Correct Primer

The correct primer depends on the substrate. Browse our range of F. Ball Primers and always follow the latest Technical Data Sheet.

3. Repair Damaged Areas

Use Stopgap Micro Rapid for feather edging and small imperfections, or Stopgap 400 Repair for deeper holes, damaged screeds and localised repairs.

4. Choose the Right Levelling Compound

Stopgap Fast-Track 30 – Ideal when speed is the priority.

Stopgap 700 Superflex – Designed for plywood and flexible substrates.

Stopgap 300 HD – Heavy-duty smoothing compound for demanding applications.

Stopgap 1200 Pro – The ideal choice when levelling over suitable well-bonded adhesive residues.

  • Not all substrates are suitable without priming.

FAQs

1. Can Stopgap 1200 Pro be applied over old adhesive residues?

Yes. One of its key advantages is that it can be applied over well-bonded adhesive residues, including bitumen residues and carpet tile tackifiers, without priming in many situations.

2. How quickly can I install flooring?

Under normal conditions, most floor coverings can be installed after approximately 4 hours.

3. Is Stopgap 1200 suitable for timber floors?

Yes. It can be used for patch repairs on timber floors before overboarding with plywood. It is not designed as a direct levelling compound over suspended timber floors without following F. Ball's recommendations.

4. How thick can Stopgap 1200 be applied?

It can be applied between 2mm and 10mm in one application and can be bulked out to 30mm using the correct aggregate.

5. Do I need to use a primer?

Not when applied over suitable well-bonded adhesive residues. Other substrates may require an F. Ball primer, so always refer to the latest Technical Data Sheet.
