Bona White is a pigmented, waterborne wood floor primer developed to create beautiful whitewashed and Scandinavian-inspired wood floor finishes while preserving the natural character of the timber.
The level of whiteness can be controlled by the number of coats applied. A single coat typically produces a subtle whitewashed appearance, while additional coats create a brighter, more opaque finish. On certain light timber species, one coat can also produce the impression of freshly sanded untreated wood.
Why Choose Bona White?
- Creates beautiful whitewashed timber floors
- Ideal for Scandinavian-inspired interiors
- Buildable colour intensity with additional coats
- Easy and forgiving roller application
- Fast drying
- Waterborne and low odour
- GREENGUARD certified for low indoor air emissions
- Compatible with Bona waterborne finishing systems
Suitable Flooring
- Oak flooring
- Ash flooring
- Pine flooring
- Maple flooring
- Engineered wood flooring with a sandable wear layer
- Solid wood flooring
- Parquet and herringbone flooring
- Professionally sanded existing timber floors
Wiltshire Wood Recommendation:
For the most natural Scandinavian finish, apply one coat of Bona White followed by two coats of Bona Traffic HD Raw . For a brighter whitewashed appearance, apply two coats of Bona White before finishing with the selected Bona lacquer.
Compatible Topcoats
| Compatible Finish | Recommended Use | Finished Appearance |
|---|---|---|
| Bona Traffic HD Raw | Premium domestic and commercial floors | Closest to an untreated Scandinavian oak appearance |
| Bona Traffic HD Extra Matt | High-traffic domestic and commercial flooring | Natural matt finish with a subtle whitewashed effect |
| Bona Mega EVO Ultra Matt | Domestic and medium commercial floors | Natural ultra-matt finish with excellent value |
To preserve the whitewashed appearance, Bona recommends using matt or ultra-matt waterborne finishes. Always test the complete finishing system on the actual timber before treating the full floor.

Recommended Application Tools
Recommended Gap Filling
Before priming, fill fine joints using Bona Mix & Fill Plus , then complete the final sanding and vacuum thoroughly before applying the primer.
Application
- Sand the floor back to clean, bare timber.
- Vacuum thoroughly.
- Shake the primer well before and during use.
- Apply evenly using a Bona roller while maintaining a wet edge.
- Allow approximately 1–2 hours drying.
- Apply additional coats if a stronger whitewashed appearance is required.
- Finish with the selected compatible Bona lacquer.
Important: The final appearance will vary depending on the timber species, sanding sequence and number of coats applied. Always carry out a sample area before coating the entire floor, particularly on oak and other naturally coloured timbers.
